The short version: KeyPop needs to know that a key was pressed so it can play a sound. It does not record, store or send what you type. The only time the app contacts the internet is to check a licence key.
The KeyPop app
Your key presses
To play a sound when you type, KeyPop asks Windows to tell it when a key goes down or comes up, in any app. For each key press it uses three things, in memory, for a moment:
- which key it was, to choose the sound (for example, a deeper sound for Space) and the left or right stereo position;
- how quickly you are typing and how many keys you have pressed in a row, for the sounds that react to speed and combos;
- whether Ctrl is held, for Shortcut drama.
None of this is written to disk, kept after it has been used, or sent anywhere. KeyPop never assembles your key presses into text, and it has no feature that could show or export what you typed. Key presses generated by other software, such as text expanders, are ignored.
What the app stores on your PC
- Your settings (chosen sound, volume and options), in a file in your Windows user profile.
- Your own sounds, if you make a custom pack: copies of the audio files you choose. They are never uploaded.
- Your licence, once activated: the licence key, an activation ID and the date it was last checked.
- A start-up entry, only if you turn on "Start with Windows".
These stay on your PC. Deleting the KeyPop folder in your user profile's AppData\Roaming folder removes all of them. Be aware that this also removes your activation, and a licence key cannot be activated a second time.
When the app uses the internet
Only for licensing, and only if you have entered a licence key. The app contacts Dodo Payments, the company that issues and checks our licence keys:
- When you activate a key, it sends the key and your PC's Windows device name, which labels that activation.
- About once a day while you use the app, it sends the key and the activation ID to confirm the licence is still valid.
As with any internet request, Dodo Payments also sees your IP address. Without a licence key the app makes no network requests at all. KeyPop contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking.
Buying a licence
Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record: you buy from them, and they collect your name, email address, billing country and payment details under their own privacy policy. We never see your card or bank details.
Dodo Payments shares your order details with us, including your name, email address, country and what you bought. We use these to deliver your licence key, answer support requests, correct payment errors and keep the tax and accounting records the law requires. We keep them for as long as those purposes need.
This website
- The typing demo runs in your browser. What you type on the 3D keyboard is shown on your screen and nowhere else. It is not sent to us or stored.
- No cookies and no analytics. The site saves your demo volume setting, and whether you dismissed the download prompt, in your own browser's storage. We cannot read these.
- Fonts. The site's typefaces load from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
- Hosting. Our web host keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
- Sharing. The "Share on X" button opens X with a pre-written post. Nothing is posted unless you choose to post it, and X's own privacy policy applies there.
If we add visitor statistics later, we will update this page first.
Who else receives data
Dodo Payments (payments and licence checks), Google (fonts on this website) and our web host. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of the order details we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete them, by writing to dhruvphogat427@gmail.com. We may need to keep some records where the law requires it, such as invoices. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
KeyPop is not aimed at children, and purchases must be made by an adult.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. If the app ever starts handling data differently, the change will be described here before it ships.
